Harjot Singh Bains Biography

Harjot Singh Bains is an AAP politician from the Indian state of Punjab.He was elected as the P.L.A. representative for Anandpur Sahib in the year 2022. Currently, he serves as a minister in the Punjabi government. After breaking Bikram Singh Majithia’s record for youngest cabinet minister in Punjab state history, he took his oath on March 19, 2022.

Gambhirpur is Bains’ hometown; it’s located in the Punjabi district of Ropar, in the tehsil of Shri Anandpur Sahib. His grandfather on his father’s side, the late S. Kabal Singh Dhillon, was a prominent Nangal builder. His grandfather on his mother’s side, the late S. Ujjagar Singh Bains, was a member of the BBMB Nangal team that constructed the Bhakra Nangal Dam.

He received his education at Ludhiana, where he also graduated with a BA and LLB from Punjab University. Additionally, he has attended the London School of Economics and Political Science for an intensive study in International Human Rights Law. His current practise is before the High Court of Punjab and Haryana, where he is an advocate.

He founded the Pan Punjab United Youth Organisation when he was only 18 years old. He played a crucial role in India’s fight against corruption. He founded the Aam Aadmi Party in Punjab and became its first president when he was just 23 years old. Over the course of 15 days in 2016, he travelled 300 kilometres (190 miles) from Shri in Fatehgarh Sahib district to the border of Hussainiwala in Ferozepur district as part of his “Nawa Punjab March” against drug use in Punjab.

Harjot Singh Bains’s Parents and Siblings

In May/June of 2013, Harjot Singh Bains was named the convener of the Aam Aadmi Social Gathering in the state of Punjab. Bains was put in charge of the Punjab chapter of the Aam Aadmi Social Gathering after the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

Harjot Singh Bains contested the 2017 Legislative Assembly election in the Sahnewal seat for the Aam Aadmi Party. Because to Bains’ electoral mismanagement, he received just 39,000 votes. Sharanjit Singh Dhillon, a candidate for the Shiromani Akali Dal, has conceded. Rapidly rising through the ranks, he is now an official member of the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) National Government and a significant voice inside the party.

In 2022, Harjot Singh Bains stood for the Punjab Legislative Assembly as an Aam Aadmi Social Gathering candidate, seeking the seat of Anandpur Sahib Meeting.

He defeated his Indian National Congress rival Kanwarpal Singh Rana by a margin of 45,780 votes. After his party won 92 of 117 seats in the Punjab Legislative Meeting election on March 16, 2022, Bhagwant Mann was sworn in as Chief Minister of Punjab.

On October 14, Harjot Singh Bains was appointed election coordinator for the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly elections in 2022 by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

Bains was given a cabinet seat in the Mann administration after the Aam Aadmi Party took power in Punjab in 2022. He became a cabinet minister on March 19, 2023, and his inauguration ceremony was held at the Guru Nanak Dev auditorium of the Punjab Raj Bhavan in Chandigarh.

He was assigned in charge of the Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, the Department of Mines and Geology, and the Department of Authorised and Legislative Affairs.

Harjot Singh, the minister in charge of prisons in May 2022, recommended holding prison officials responsible for inmates’ illicit usage of cellphones on prison premises. A month later, Bains claimed that AAP officers had seized almost a thousand iPhones from Punjab prisons. Harjot said that the federal government was actively seeking over a thousand additional jail wardens to fill the available positions in order to further modernise the prison system. He also advocated for the improvement of prisons to the standard of “sudhar ghars” (jails).

Bains also claimed that prominent offenders did not get special treatment during his tenure as Jail Minister, as had been the case in the past. Harjot Singh Bains, in his role as minister of mines, instituted new policies. The Punjab area has implemented a number of laws to fight the sand mafia. Bains was downgraded in a Cabinet shuffle after around three and a half months in the role and given oversight of postsecondary and higher education instead.

As of July 4, 2022, Harjot Singh Bains serves as the Government of Punjab’s Cabinet Minister for Higher Education. Budgets for Technical and Industrial Coaching, Enhanced Education, and Languages were given to him.

In February of 2023, Harjot Singh hosted a workshop in the Punjab College Training Board auditorium to plan for the next school year’s increased enrollment in public schools. Officers who did not attend the training were informed that they would get a present trigger notice.

Since he was a young student, Harjot Singh Bains has participated in a wide range of local activities.
